Introducing Ubercart Auction

I started a new project at Drupal.org today. It’s called Ubercart Auction, and, as you may have guessed, it’s a module which adds auction capabilities to the excellent Ubercart shopping cart system for Drupal. (At the time I posted this, the lovely D.o robots had yet to pack the code together into a downloadable dev release yet, but hopefully it’ll happen soon.) It was written for a client whose site isn’t live yet who is going to want to sell things via auction on their store. After seeing how well the module was progressing and how useful it could be for other people, I asked our contact there if they would be cool with us releasing it for free, and he gave us the okay.

Drupal’s other e-commerce solution, appropriately named Drupal e-Commerce, already has an auction solution. However, Ubercart seems to have more momentum nowadays. It’s a bit complicated to set up, and the D6 version isn’t up to snuff yet, but it’s quite the capable little bugger. Heck, anything’s better than the horrid tangle of code that is osCommerce (or, as a friend and I dubbed it last night, posCommerce).

I also started work last night (on my own time) on a little module which would provide a block telling site visitors how many form submissions the lovely anti-spam service Mollom has blocked on your site. I was hoping to have it done tonight, but Mollom’s servers seem to always report that it’s blocked zero submissions, which can’t be right. If I can get these issues resolved soon, I’ll probably create a project for it over the weekend.

Hi Garret, did you heard from any Epayment API for drupal? Thx a lot. Stephan

I’m sorry, I’m not sure what you’re asking. Our clients are going to be using a payment system called USA ePay, if that’s what you’re asking. There’s an Ubercart module for it, but it’s not very good; I rewrote it, but haven’t released the updates.

Hmmmm interesting. Always was looking for one of this type of plug-in. Definitely worth a try. How about the security issues? Are they looked into? Appreciate the work. Cheers

It uses Ubercart as its guts, so for the most part, it’s simply as secure as Ubercart (which is pretty darn secure - it’s been around for a while and was written by smart people). It still has a few bugs though. Check out the issue queue for a real-time run-down of problems with the module.

Hello,

I’m am trying to test this module on an auction website, and I was wondering if it’s posible to add the folowing functionality: -every autheticated user should be able to bid based on the amount of credits he has for his account. Users can get more credits by sending an sms.

Sure, I don’t see why that wouldn’t be possible. Go for it.

How is the project coming along? I didn’t think that drupal would be versatile enough to be used as an actual ecommerce website.

It’s going well. The site we’re building this for will go live early next month, knock on wood.

I’m using this module. First of all I must thank you for developing it. Its great help for us. But I saw there are two problems. 1. First one is ‘buy now’ function is not working well. When buy now field is enable, max bidder can not buy the product after auction expiry. An error message appear at the order review stage as “Your order could not continue because one of the items you are trying to purchase using the “Buy Now” feature cannot be purchased because it has expired. Please remove the item from your cart to continue. ” 2. The other problem is attribute values are not added to the price of the auction item. As an example I used an attribute as user can select one options; normal post or registered post via which he expected to receive the product. I assign different values for those options. For normal products, its working. Option value is added to product price. But for auction products its not working. After auction expiry, option appear. After adding product to the cart, name of the selected option displays, but its value is not displays or not added to the cost of the product.

If you can fix these issues, it will be a great help to all of us. Than you again for developing this module

I’m sorry, but I don’t really have the ability to work on UC Auction anymore at this point, particularly not for free… there’s just too much other paid (or unpaid but still more rewarding) things to do.
